Pickleball Elo rating calculator
See what one game does to a PickleCrew rating, for singles or doubles. This is PickleCrew's own informal rating update, not DUPR, UTR-P or any official rating, and it does not tell you your level.
The game
Side A
2.0 to 6.0
Whole, 1 to 999
Side B
2.0 to 6.0
Whole, 1 to 999
The result
Enter a rating and the rated games for each player, and choose the winner. The result appears here as you type.
Good to know before you read a result
- Only who won counts. The score changes nothing, so there is no margin of victory.
- A win never lowers a PickleCrew rating, and a loss never raises one.
- How far a rating moves depends on rated games played: 48 under 10 games, 32 up to 29, then 20.
- A DUPR you type is not checked. It only helps set the starting rating of a player with no rated games.
- Nothing is saved or sent. What you type stays in this tab and is not put in the address.
How the calculator works
- Choose singles or doubles, and whether you will type a Skill rating or Elo points.
- For each player, enter a rating and their rated games. A player with no rated games is a new player: enter a self-rated level and, if there is one, a DUPR.
- Choose which side won.
- Read the expected chance for each side and each player's change, in the unit you typed first and in the other unit second. Everything updates as you type.
It uses the same functions the app uses when a game is saved, so a result here matches what the app would write for the same ratings and rated games. The ratings guide spells out the formula and works two games by hand.
Frequently asked questions
How are pickleball ratings calculated?
Rating systems compare each result with what the two ratings predicted. PickleCrew's is a plain Elo update: the expected chance comes from the gap between the two sides' average ratings, and each player moves by a step size that depends on their rated games. DUPR and UTR-P use their own methods, which this calculator does not run.
What is the pickleball Elo system?
Elo rates players from results. Each side has an expected chance of winning from the rating gap, and each player's rating moves by a step size times the gap between the result (1 for a win, 0 for a loss) and that chance. PickleCrew's Skill rating is an Elo rating underneath. It is PickleCrew's own and not comparable with DUPR or UTR-P.
What is the pickleball rating scale?
PickleCrew's Skill rating comes from a table made by PickleCrew: 1,200 Elo is shown as 3.0, 1,500 as 4.0 and 1,800 as 5.0. It is not DUPR's scale, UTR-P's scale or a USA Pickleball skill level. The guide covers how those describe themselves.
Where ratings come from
A PickleCrew rating changes when a member logs a finished game in a crew, or when a ranked competition game is scored. An unranked game does not count. This calculator never changes anyone’s rating. Sign in or create an account to join a crew and log games.
