Start king of the court in the appHow the night works
- Set the players and courts: 4 to 24 players on 1 to 16 courts. Each court takes four players, so the courts in use never go above the players divided by four.
- Round 1 is drawn at random. Play one game on each court and tap the winning pair. When every court has a winner, press Next round.
- After round 1, winners move up a court and losers move down, and the ends stay: winners on court 1 and losers on the last court keep their court. Partners never repeat from the round before.
- When someone sits out or the roster changes, the ladder closes up around the gap, so a player can move more than one court. Players returning from a sit-out, and late arrivals, start at the bottom.
- Standings use points by court, our recommendation: a win earns the courts in play, less the court number, plus one. Ranking is points, then points per game, then wins on court 1.
- End the night to see the final standings. The night is saved on this device, so a reload or a locked phone loses nothing.
Frequently asked questions
How many players and courts does it handle?
It runs 4 to 24 players on 1 to 16 courts. Each court takes four players, so the courts in use never go above the players divided by four. When more players show up than the courts can hold, the extras sit out in turn.
Who sits out?
Each round the runner picks the players with the fewest sit-outs first, then anyone who did not sit last round, then the players with the most games, with ties shuffled. Nobody is the default sitter because of where they are on the list.
How are the standings worked out?
By points by court, which is our recommendation. A win earns the courts in play that round, less the court number, plus one, so with 3 courts a win on court 1 earns 3, court 2 earns 2 and court 3 earns 1. A loss earns nothing. Players are ranked by points, then points per game, then wins on court 1, and players still level share a place.
Can someone join late or leave?
Yes. Add a late arrival any time; they join the next round. Someone who leaves keeps their games in the standings, marked Left, and can be added back. A player on a court can be removed once every court has a winner. Below 4 players the runner asks you to add more before the next round.
What if a timed round ends level?
Someone has to win each court, so the runner has no draw. Decide before round 1 how to settle a level score, for example with one more rally, and tap the winner.
Is my night saved, and who can see it?
The night is saved on this device, in this browser, and you can reload or lock your phone without losing it. Names and results stay here and are never sent anywhere. They reach PickleCrew only if you choose to continue in the app and press Start round 1, and then only the roster and courts travel, not the results.
How is this different from the PickleCrew app?
The runner lives in this browser. The app keeps your history across devices and for your crew. The runner ranks by points by court, and the app ranks quick play by wins. Both draw round 1 at random. Starting in the app needs a crew you admin.
